Indie 2D action RPG Hyper Light Drifter finally has a release date! Fans have been sitting on their hands for so long, their arms are probably asleep, as the game was originally set for a 2014 release date. Sadly, after a slew of delays, the game was postponed by two years.
Game development is often an imprecise process of discovering how everything works together; the core concepts, the visuals, the audio and the interactive. Hyper Light Drifter is a big game, with a small handful of extremely dedicated people creating it. -Devs at Heart Machine.
But things are look up today! Fans can look forward to delving their way through vibrant environments, using awesome combat, and plain old having a great time on March 31st. That’s only a week and two days away!
Originally funded via a stunning Kickstarter campaign, where their $27k goal was mightily surpassed at $645,158, the indie developers have described their game as “a 2D Action RPG in the vein of the best 8-bit and 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.” Other media outlets have compared the game to classic adventure titans such as Zelda.
Alongside their release date announcement, developers also threw in this serene third trailer, which is worth watching for the excellent mix of beautiful graphics and sound. The trailers are all mind boggling when you consider all of the animation was handmade!!
Developers at Heart Machine have so far only announced the game for PC (Windows, and Mac), but also stress that the game will be made available for Playstation 4 and Xbox One in the year of 2016–meanwhile a Vita and Wii U release is still up in the air. Hopefully more on this soon.
Future players are able to buy the game on Steam. However, players who choose instead to pre-order through Humble Bundle will be rewarded with a key for PC/Mac, as well as an exclusive wallpaper.
Some fans had given up hope on this staggering project, but it appears devs have pulled through as promised. We can play Hyper Light Drifter on PC this coming March 31st!
