One of the biggest advantages that tower-defense games have had over the years is they’re ability to focus on more than a single player character. The most popular games in the genre usually see players controlling groups, organizations, or a collection of defenders at the very least. Set in the Despot universe, Hull Breach takes the strength a step further by having players manage to safety and objective of an entire spacecraft while holding off hordes of invaders. The upcoming game recently received its release date and a new demo detailed in the latest trailer.
The trailer quickly shows off the massive scale of the ship that players will have access to and be tasked with defending throughout the voyage. Separated into small, specialized rooms, humans can be set to work on various tasks such as producing resources, repairing damage, or even being converted into fuel. According to the Steam page, the new demo includes features meant to make the process of managing resources and defenses easier, including massive turrets that can destroy waves single-handedly and an information screen that give data on current production.
During the journey, in addition to defending the ship, players will also be able to make additions to the hull, adding new rooms for more resources or defenses. From there, players will chart a course across the stars, picking their fights or special events based on what the ship can handle. As the fights grow more difficult, so will the rewards that players receive. All of this is in service of the ship’s ultimate goal of reaching the alien home world for revenge.
Hull Breach takes the typical theme of tower defense and flips it on its head by having the goal be to push past the opposition at all costs. The full game is set to release on November 4th with the new demo available now.
