A new survival horror game is coming to Early Access in just five days. Carnival Hunt is a first person horror game where five players must work together to find a way to escape while one hunts them down. Survivors play as wind-up bunnies whose charge decreases as the match continues. Players have to use keys to keep each other charged, but keys are limited and using them creates noise that reveals their location to the Carnival Monster.
In addition to keeping each other charged, survivors must complete objectives, share resources, and activate important mechanisms. An interesting mechanic is that players can play dead to evade capture. The map includes fallen bunnies, allowing players to hide among them. The player acting as the monster can choose to inspect each fallen bunny one by one, but they will risk wasting their own charge.
Survivors are not the only ones that need to worry about staying wound up. The Carnival Monster must also hunt down Bunnies to consume their keys and remain active. This means that the Monster will also be racing against the clock, using their resources wisely to not lose charge before the survivors do.
The Monster’s main goal is to stop the other players from escaping. Each Monster has a unique set of skills and abilities, which are designed around various hunting traits such as deception or control. The Magician is able to make themselves invisible and has a magic box that allows him to teleport.
Developed by Crytivo and Beer Night Studio, Carnival Hunt uses noise mechanics to enhance the fear factor. There is a positional voice chat players can use to communicate with one another, but the Monster can listen it and find their location. It is a game where talking has to be done strategically to ensure survival.
The game is releasing for Early Access on July 23rd via Steam. The cost for Early Access is set at $19.99, but Carnival Hunt will have a 10% discount for a limited time. Players will be able to pick between two Monsters and each match is built from modular blocks or rooms. There will be 32 rooms available at launch and each map’s layout changes from match to match requiring players to consistently adapt. This is one horror survival game that players don’t want to miss, especially as October draws closer.
