Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Confirmed By Warner Bros CFO

A sequel title to the 2023 hit Hogwarts Legacy was recently confirmed by Warner Brothers Discovery. According to Variety, the confirmation happened in a interview at Bank of America’s 2024 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference with Warner Bros Discovery chief financial officer (CFO) Gunnar Wiedenfels on Wednesday.

“Obviously, a successor to ‘Hogwarts Legacy’ is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road,” said Wiedenfels. “So there is certainly a significant growth contribution from that [games] business in our strategic outlook here.”

Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy released in 2023 to great success, selling over 24 million copies since its release. Despite that game’s success, the recent failure of the live-service multiplayer shooter Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has had Warner Bros Discovery going back to the drawing board, which lost the company over 200 million in revenue. The failure caused the game’s developer Rocksteady to be hit with layoffs months later.

Thankfully, despite its recent failures, Wiedenfes assured that Warner Bros Games would remain would an “asset” to the company. Due to the company’s attempt at live-service games failing, Bloomberg reported that Warner Bros Games was walking back towards single-player experiences, with Rocksteady working on a Hogwarts Legacy Directors Cut.

While the sequel for Hogwarts Legacy is likely years away, fans of the massive franchise can check out the new multiplayer game Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, which released digitally earlier this week.

Players can experience playing for one of three wizarding schools in Quidditch matches with hopes of eventually competing in the Quidditch World Cup.

Fans that are curious on the future titles of Warner Bros Games should head over to their official website and social media for updates.
