Ben Franklin vs. William Shakespeare. Abraham Lincoln vs. Ghandi. Sound like fiction? Not if the talented team at Headrush Games has something to say about it; and say they do.
Led by a team of eager, young game designers and thinkers, Headrush Games is buffing the status quo for more innovative and creative thinking when it comes to their Kickstarter game History Fighter.
History Fighter is treading a new path; avoiding the traditional fighting skeleton we see so often in games like Super Smash Bros. and Mortal Kombat for a collectible card based game. It’s designed to be a fun, graphical adventure with education fused into its DNA.
As Levon Louis, creator of History Fighter, said during his interview with mxdwn games,
We are not business as usual. Headrush Games exists to challenge thinking and make the world a better place with what we put out into it. We innovate with content to make games that entertain with humor over grotesque violence. Games that infuse knowledge in interesting ways. We are experienced enough to give our games meaningful mechanics, and taking advantage of our hyper-connected world to create surprisingly deep and quality games with a snack-sized team.
The game is centered on this simple idea – super powered historical figures. If you thought those pesky leaders in Civilization were a handful, wait until you get your fingers on History Fighter.
The core video game audience today grew up in the 80’s and 90’s when collectible card based games were becoming mainstream. As us older gamers have grown, our interest in the genre has waned because the source content has remained the same. History Fighter is a nostalgic rebirth harking back to the days of Magic: The Gathering and Pokemon but with context in which older gamers can relate.
But History Fighter isn’t just for adults. In fact, one of its many charms is its age accessibility.
We also hope that many parents and educators will get behind History Fighter because of its inherent learning value. After all, the fun part is the historical heroes, which most people will learn something new about for sure. We’ve given the game solid and meaningful mechanics while keeping it accessible for first-time CCG players.
History Fighter is one of those rare games that targets multiple demographics and gets it right. But the small and talented team at Headrush Games needs your help.
The game is 70% finished. It’s for iPad and we hope to follow up with Android/OUYA versions directly after the iPad release….We want everyone to back our project on Kickstarter so we can finish this thing strong and keep control of our destiny now that deal sharks are circling.
And while History Fighter is currently a CCG, Levon has bigger plans in store.
The brand blueprint long-term does include a fighting game more like a SSB, Street Fighter, or Mortal Kombat. We are currently modeling Davy Crockett as a 3D character while all this is happening, we have some plans for him already. We hope to grow the History Fighter universe into all kinds of space. In a perfect world, we’ll be on Adult Swim with this thing in a year, right?
It’s an ambitious project to be sure, but Levon and his team at Headrush Games are ready for the challenge. With their work and your support via Kickstarter, History Fighter will be a game everyone is talking about soon. Get your spectacles and top hats, canes and poem books, and other historical weapons of choice ready for combat soon.
