I hope that article title joke isn’t overused by the time you read this. Yes, we’ve known for a long time and they’ve been plastered on the Marvel Rivals home screen for a while now, but Fantastic Four members Ben “The Thing” Grimm and Johnny “Human Torch” Storm are finally coming to Marvel Rivals and they’ve brought their gameplay trailers with them.
From the look of things, The Thing is a Vanguard class tank. He’s got a bit more finesse than his fellow big strong guy The Hulk, using boxing jabs and haymakers, but he’s still a brawler at heart. Equipped with a great jump to shield allies and himself, as well as an AOE burst that destroys the environment and deals damage, it seems like The Thing is a more mobile tank that focuses on repositioning more than anything. From the gameplay though you’re going to need to be smart, as it seems like his health gets pummeled a bit more quickly than, say, Venom or Hulk.
Human Torch on the other hand, is a flying DPS in the same vein as Storm and Iron Man. Constantly in flight and raining down fire on his enemies, Torch is going to be an immobile team’s worst nightmare. With an area denial fire field as well as a dive move for quick bursts and repositioning, Torch looks solid. Oh, and he has a team up with Storm that gives him fire tornadoes, so look forward to two flying Duelists wreaking havoc on the battlefield below them.
Both Human Torch and The Thing will be coming to Marvel Rivals this Friday, February 21st. Also releasing with them is a new map that features cameos from Blade and Dracula, as well as a peek into Squirrel Girl’s hideout. With four new characters and two new maps in the span of a month it’s really looking like Marvel Rivals is churning out the content.
