Hellraid: The Escape Set For July 10 Release

Dark fantasy puzzler Hellraid: The Escape is set to release for Apple Devices on July 10 this year for $2.99, according to a press release from publisher Techland.

Hellraid: The Escape is being developed by Shortbreak Studios, a division of Techland, who is developing a full-on version of the game for the PC and next-gen consoles that will include four player-co-op and first person fantasy shooter gameplay much like Hexen and Witchhaven. This one is simply being called Hellraid.

Hellraid: The Escape, meanwhile, will feature no combat or weapons, instead focusing on puzzle solving and exploration. The press release describes the game’s premise as such:

Players are trapped in a magic prison having only their cunning as their weapon. As every riddle in the game is unique, their attempt to escape will not only put their puzzle-solving skills to the test, but also challenge their reflexes and quick thinking.

A gameplay trailer has also been released. Much of it will test the player’s finger swiping dexterity, as the game will require deft movement to avoid oncoming attacks from enemies, as well as time-based puzzle solving, such as one involving a descending spike ceiling that must be deactivated.

Additionally, Hellraid: The Escape looks stunning for a mobile game, having been developed on the Unreal 3 Engine. The game’s graphical qualities nearly rival that of an early Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 game.It features a resolution of 2048×1536 and runs at a robust 30 frames per second.

Of course, such power demands the latest hardware to function properly, and as such the game is only compatible for the iPad 2 and newer, iPhone 4S and newer, and the iPod Touch 5th Generation.

Another nice touch is that Shortbreak Studios will be releasing additional content in the future for the game absolutely free of charge, with no additional purchases or pay-to-win elements whatsoever. The developer attributes this to the support of their bigger brother, Techland.

Shortbreak Studios specializes in developing mobile games, with a resume that includes titles such as Sugar High, Beat the Melody, Heal them All and The Collider. Techland, meanwhile, is better known as the developer behind Dead Island and Dying Light.
