Just today, developers from Arrowhead Game Studios have announced a brand new update that launches today on May 20th for Helldivers 2 called ‘Heart of Democracy.’ Helldivers 2 is available for both PlayStation 5 and PC through Steam. The update is free for players which features some major updates to the game.
The new launch trailer features a narrator who speaks about the world being invaded by robotic alien creatures that left cities in complete ruin. The trailer also previewed some gameplay of players taking down the alien creatures to save the world, the people, and democracy. The primary goal is to fight against the aliens called squids that have taken over the world with a variety of weapons and tools.
The developers have recently posted about the new update and went more in depth of what will be incorporated in the update. The story goes as follows, “Despite the valiant efforts of our Helldivers to push back the fleet, the Illuminate have reached Super Earth. Now they are swarming our cities, terrorizing citizens, and destroying our infrastructure. It’s time to rise up and take arms and fight for the precious foundations and soil of Democracy manifest. Helldivers, return to our planet and defend what is rightfully ours.”
There will be a variety of weapons available for players to use to take down the squids, specifically the Planetary Defense Cannons to gain higher ground against the enemy. Players will also be able to contact SEAF for backup as well. The small squads will fight off enemies on their own or they could be ordered around to follow Helldivers to provide temporary backup as the player navigates towards objectives.
Players do have to be aware of the leftover citizens that are still roaming the streets. Players must keep the citizens safe as they fear the squids that will try to attack them, and if any life is lost from one of the squids, there will be some form of punishment.
Lastly on the latest post, this is what the developers had to say, “Last week, we released a powerful primary weapon customization system and expanded surplus options to fight against the Illuminate as they emerged from the singularity. Now that you have learned the tactics of these new squid troops–like the Crescent Overseer and the hulking Fleshmob–you must master these tools to continue the fight on Super Earth. Use every available resource, divers, and decimate their forces!”
