One of the biggest talking points that comes up when discussing games that run events is the exclusivity of items or gameplay experiences that each event may introduce. This has come up most recently with the reveal of the latest event for Helldivers 2, The Festival of Reckoning. The new event offers new stratagems and ways to play from December 18th to December 30th, leading to a reaction of excitement and disappointment that the features are limited from fans.
To show off the new event, Arrowhead Game Studios released a trailer, playing around with the holiday theming juxtaposed with the violent nature of the game. In the video description, players learn that the Festival of Reckoning is a three-day celebration where large savings are spent all at once to kill as many enemies of Democracy as possible. Battles are shown to take place across icy fields littered with enemy robots. In order to cause as much devastation as possible, players are also given new stratagems to test. These include a 120mm EMS projectile with stun, gatling barrage fire projectiles, and walking barrage with smoke.
In the comments of the release video for the event, players are almost universally excited for the event and the new content that it adds to the game. Some players have pointed out the potential of new red stratagems while lamenting that they will only last until the end of the year. Other commenters have speculated that the event is a way to test features before a formal introduction into the game. Regardless of how long the features will last, it is clear that the unique gifts from Super Earth will allow challenges to be approached in more unique ways.
Helldivers 2 has developed a very loyal set of players. The largest complaint against their newest content being its impermanence is a good sign that when they do release the next major update, it will include ideas that many fans will enjoy.
