BlizzCon is now underway and to fans’ delight Blizzard has a lot in store to reveal to its fans over the weekend. Yesterday, the company held its “Hearthstone: What’s Next” presentation which gave quite a bit of information to fans on the next big things coming to the game, particularly dealing with the “Kobolds & Catacombs” expansion. which is slated to come out next month.
The expansion will bring a brand new single player game mode called Dungeon Runs, which takes the player through treacherous journeys underground. Players will receive a free legendary minion (Marin the Fox) as well a legendary weapon. A new keyword, Recruit, is also now introduced into the mix of things. When a card with the keyword Recruit is played, a random minion from the player’s deck will be summoned to the field to fight.
There was also a good deal of information on new mechanics revealed such as the legendary weapons for each class. We got a look at a couple of these cards such as the Dragon Soul and the Aluneth. The Aluneth is a 6 Mana 0/3 weapon that will draw 3 cards at the end of the players turn. On stage, designer Peter Whalen also stated that all the weapons of the caster classes will have 0 attack, to maintain their identity. Each class will have one of the legendary weapons card and every player will be receiving one of these legendary weapons randomly when they log in after the set is released.
In addition to this we also got a look at some Unidentified Item cards. These seem to be item cards that add an extra boost to players minions. However, these cards seem to also have an underlying random effect that isn’t revealed until the card is drawn. Mission director Dave Kosak also hinted that a shield and a weapon were among the Unidentified Item cards yet to be revealed so it looks like the developers are keeping those up their sleeves.
We also got a look at some Spellstone cards. These cards will also differ based on each class and will upgrade if the player fulfills certain conditions while the cards are in their hands and will come with a power boost whenever they cast it.
And one of the most interesting new cards showed off in the presentation was Rin, the First Disciple. The Warlock card works in a strange way: after she is killed, the player will receive a card called The First Seal which will summon a monster to the field and give them another card called The Second Seal. The cycle will repeat until The Sixth Seal is played which will put Azari, The Devourer into your hand. This monster card has the power to destroy every remaining card in the opposing player’s deck! It’s a bit of a long process but the payoff seems to be worth the wait. Besides that there were also a gang of other new cards revealed so here they are below.
Eager players can now pre purchase the new expansion pack in a 50 pack bundle for the price of $49.99 on Battle.net as well as Blizzard’s game shop. These players will also be able to receive a jeweled decorated “For the Hoard” card back free of charge. The pre-purchase offer will also be available in app for IOS and Android players.
