It’s May and that can mean only one thing: Blizzard’s Overwatch: The Anniversary Event. Or at least, the third anniversary event. Overwatch has been celebrating it’s arrival into the gaming world each May for the past couple of years; so it’s no surprise that the official Twitter showcased an invite to everyone to come celebrate.
Let’s get this party started! 🎉🎂

Why everyone? Because while the event will last well into June, the first week of the event, May 21 through May 28, will be a free week for anyone who wants to try Overwatch that hasn’t gotten the chance yet. Free weekends and weeks are no surprise for this game as Blizzard will usually have one on the release of a new character. However, because of the special celebration, there’s going to be the full week for new players.
In the past year, the Anniversary Event has shown to have all previous skins available for purchase using in-game currency, or get the chance to obtain them through the game’s loot box system. This does include all previous event skins including the most recent Storm Rising event skins. However, normally with events, Overwatch has been revealed a skin per day for a set amount of time before the actual event starts. This time it seems that there will be no such peeking, as there have been no cosmetic reveals. Which means that any new skins that might be revealed on May 21, will be a complete surprise for players.
Along with all the previous event skins, all previous event modes will also be available to play in the Arcade section of the game, as has shown in previous years. So if you’ve been missing some Halloween spookiness, then you don’t have to wait for next October.
As of so far, there’s no information on whether there will be new event cosmetics or any new modes. But the party date is set for Overwatch’s Anniversary Event starting May 21. There is no current end date for the event, but the first week, until May 28, will be a free week for new players.
