Halo Wars 2, the real time strategy sequel that initially released this past February for the Xbox One and PC is getting its first big time story update, and to fans delight they won’t have to wait too long for it. Microsoft announced this week at Gamescom that “Awakening the Nightmare” will be released on September 26. Players will take on the role as the enemy “The Banished” and will face off in a Flood threat against the Ark. The interesting thing about The Flood is that they can shift form which will make the battle more difficult for the player.
New story content isn’t the only thing that this update will bring. In addition to this feature, Awakening the Nightmare will also introduce a new game mode that will have players facing off against wave after wave of randomized enemies called the Terminus Fight Mode. Developer 343 Industries explained in a blog post, “The number of possible leader combinations with all the different leader powers and hero units is going to make this mode pretty nuts and while there will definitely be competition for highest scores.”
It looks like the month of September will be a big one for Halo Wars 2 players as there will also be two free maps Fissure and Mirage available for all players that month as well. There will be another new update for Halo Wars 2 players which will add a Spectator Mode as well as Arena Tournaments. The patch will also bring 4K and HDR support for ones who are playing on the Xbox One X.
