Battlefield 6, a shooter game published by Electronic Arts (EA), was released on October 10th and had the most successful launch in the history of the Battlefield series. However, Halo Co-Creater Marcus Lehto has since expressed disappointment that multiple individuals who worked on the title, including himself, were not listed in the game’s credits.

Lehto used to be the leader of Ridgeline Games, which began working on the Battlefield series in 2022. The studio’s role in the series’ development was “[leading] the charge on expanding the narrative, storytelling, and character development opportunities.” Two years later, Lehto voluntarily left Ridgeline Games and EA altogether per report from The Game Developer. Shortly after his departure, Ridgeline Games was dissolved in the massive EA layoffs of February 2024. Those who worked at Ridgeline but were unaffected by the lay-offs joined Ripple Studios as they continued development on the Battlefield series.

Despite Ridgeline Games’ contributions to Battlefield, including Battlefield 6, Lehto has recently posted on LinkedIn that Ridgeline team members have not been properly credited. Lehto claims that despite “significant contributions” over the span of “1 to 2.5 years,” many laid-off Ridgeline Games employees were only credited briefly in the game’s “Special Thanks” section or omitted altogether. Lehto says that these individuals helped establish the foundation of the game’s narrative, settings, and factions.

Lehto’s post includes a graphic with a list of the roles and responsibilities various Ridgeline employees had while working on Battlefield 6, as well as whether or not the individuals are credited in the game itself. Lehto lists 5 employees who went uncredited, including himself, two software engineers, and two members of the art team. Lehto posted these acknowledgements “out of respect for [his] colleagues and the awesome work they poured into this project.” He concludes the post by saying “game development is a team effort, and every contributor deserves fair acknowledgment.”

Whether or not EA will address Lehto’s post or add Ridgeline employees to Battlefield 6’s credits remains to be seen.
