Halo 2 and Halo 2 Anniversary’s Public Beta Testing on PC Starts Today

343 Industries seems to be moving fairly quickly to get the rest of the Halo: Master Chief Collection games onto PC. We’ve already got Halo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary suited for the keyboard and mouse, and next up is one of the most popular first-person shooters in video game history; Halo 2. According to the Community Support and Engagement Coordinator Tyler Davis, the “public flighting” for the game will be commencing sometime today and is advising anyone signed up for the Halo Insider Program to keep an eye out for invitations.

Alongside the base iteration will be the 10th Anniversary version that originally came with the Master Chief Collection in 2014, which showcased stunning new cut scenes and improved game mechanics. Believe it or not, but this isn’t the first time that Halo 2 will be available on PC. The title was ported to PC as Windows Vista exclusive back in 2007 and more than three years since its launch on the original Xbox. Since Vista was brand new at the time, many fans felt this was a ploy to get people to either buy new PCs with Vista installed or buy the software and install it themselves in order to play the game. Needless to say, it didn’t go very well, and the series wouldn’t see a PC release for another 12 years.

Halo 2’s launch for PC is arguably what most of the fanbase has been waiting for, as the multiplayer for this game is the stuff of legends and essentially paved the way for how the majority of companies utilize online playability on home consoles for several years. 343 Industries has already proven that they are up to the task of bringing the franchise to PC with Halo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, and we can’t wait to get our hands on this one when it comes out. No release date was given for Halo 2 Anniversary for PC, but with the speed and finesse that 343 is showing us, it’s possible that we won’t be waiting very long.

As we stated earlier, the “public flighting,” or public beta, will be starting today. Invitations will be randomly sent out to those signed up for the Halo Insider Program which you can check out hereHalo: Reach and Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary are available for PC now through Steam and Windows. Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo 4 are slated to launch throughout the rest of the year.
