Valve’s VR exclusive Half Life: Alyx is now seeing a finalized release date over the vague March window that was first stated. On Thursday, they confirmed that HLA will be available March 23rd, 2020.
The announcement made its first appearance on the game’s social media page, which raised concerns with fans because it had yet to be said on any official website or Steam listing.

Along with the release date news, fans also got a peek into game images. In a Reddit Q and A with fans there was also a number of video reveals posted that showed how the gameplay worked as well. The second announcement in this Reddit thread was the telling of “Steam VR Home environments inspired by locations in Half-Life: Alyx,” which will be made available for download” the week of March 2 ” to anyone who owns Valve Index hardware or anyone who has already pre-ordered a copy of HL:A.” While these images and videos do not add anything new to the world, it was nice for fans to see their beloved Half Life franchise up and running again.
The game is set to take place during the events of Half Life and Half Life 2 since most of the creators of the original Half Life series still work at Valve 13 years later.
“Everyone at Valve is excited to be returning to the world of Half-Life,”
Valve founder Gabe Newell said in a statement.
“VR has energized us.”
Half Life: Alyx will be available for all PC supported headsets. Pre-orders start at $59.99 USD, but is free if you own a Valve Index headset.
And for those who are still looking for Valve Indexes after the original stock was sold out, Valve reports that they will have “more information on upcoming Valve Index availability soon.”
