Daybreak Games has announced that their battle royale shooter, H1Z1,will be coming to the PlayStation 4 next month. On May 22, the developer will be providing an open beta for the PS4 version of the game before the full release. The PC version of H1Z1 was released on Steam earlier this year but, Daybreak Games says that the console version will have quite a few changes made such as a brand new control system, new weapons, gear, a new progression system, and a more simplified loot system as well.
Within the announcement, Daybreak Games spoke on the faster pace of play of the console version, “H1Z1 now features a grab-and-go equipment system, simplifying loot collection and inventory management; a familiar radial weapon menu so players can quickly switch between guns and grenades; and a revamped HUD that delivers vital information at-a-glance. The crafting system has also been removed from the game.”
The crafting system was a key element in the PC version of the game, so this is a huge surprise that they are removing it from the console version. As for the new weapon system, it will now let players loot six level-one weapons at the beginning of every match, and in order to upgrade their gear, players will have to go after new airdrops.
“Mass airdrops are released throughout the map, through which players may pick up familiar weapons like the AK and AR, as well as the new KH43, Marauder, Combat Shotgun, CNQ-09, Scout Rifle and MK46. Airdrops serve as the primary way to secure higher powered armor, which have been retooled to provide players with a health bonus.”
The developer will be holding a closed beta for the game this weekend. For those interested in taking part in the beta, they can register on the game’s official website. H1Z1 is free to play, but players can currently preorder a bundle which will include a bunch of cosmetic items and a theme for $29.99.
