Gundislav Games, the developer of A Golden Wake has recently announced its next adventure game, Lamplight City. RockPaperShotgun writer Brittany Vincent says that game brought her back to the days of watching her father play adventure games like Loom.
Lamplight City is set in an alternate “steampunk-ish” past with Victorian dress and culture. You play as a private investigator who is trying to figure out who the killer of his partner is. Noticable with the game is the fact that you don’t have to worry about an inventory, so players who go over the map to find different kinds of items during the adventure will find that feature a little strange.
The game is currently solo project by developer Francisco Gonzalez under Gundislav Games. He’s open to it being published with a publisher, but it’s still being set as a solo project
According to official website, there are five cases to solve, each with its own potential suspects, false leads and consequences for your actions. It has a single click interface. As previously stated, there is no inventory, just clues that you gather for your casebook. It is set in a fictional city with 4 burroughs to explore, each having its own unique vibe from the others. It’s also highly inspired by the works of Edgar Allen Poe and Charles Dickens.
The official website describes the plot of the game as:
For police detective turned private investigator Miles Fordham, Lamplight City’s shadowy corners are just part of the territory. But with his former partner constantly speaking to him from beyond the grave, his grip on sanity is slowly loosening. Can Miles find justice for his clients and track down his partner’s killer before his entire world comes apart?
So far there is no release date for Lamplight City as there is just the announcement and some images on the game’s official website, but players who like retro throwbacks in adventure games will enjoy the game.
