Guilty Gear X2 #Reload Arrives on Steam

It’s taken twelve years, but fighting classic Guilty Gear X2 #Reload: The Midnight Carnival, a game whose title was clearly invented by a psychopath, is now available for purchase on Steam.

Guilty Gear X2 #Reload: The…oh for crying out loud, let’s just call it GGX2, originally came out on the PlayStation 2 and Arcades in 2002. It was very well received, and to date remains the highest critically rated game in the Guilty Gear series, the most recent of which was 2007’s Guilty Gear 2: OvertureGGX2, meanwhile, was apparently so good that it received five updated versions, the most recent being the obscenely titled Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R. However, not all of these updates were very well received, and so PC users are getting what is generally regarded as the best of the lot, GGX2 #Reload.

Mark Clemens, UK Sales Director at publisher Funbox, implied that the demand for these titles from PC gamers could mean that future GG games will be arriving on Steam as well:

We are so very excited to be able to launch Guilty Gear X2 #Reload on Steam for the first time via our digital partners Kiss Ltd. This is the second Guilty Gear game we have brought to Steam and we know from customer feedback that there is huge demand for even more.  We hope customers have a great time playing Guilty Gear X2 #Reload and we are working hard to deliver even more Guilty Gear experiences.

The game offers eight gameplay modes to choose from, including your standard Arcade, Story, Training, and 2P and CPU Versus modes, along with more nuanced ones such as Survival, Medal of Millionaires and Mission modes, the latter of which involves fulfilling a series of challenges using predetermined fighters.

Also included are art galleries and all cut scenes for one’s viewing pleasure, all of which are unlocked by playing the Arcade, Mission and Story modes. The game’s soundtrack is also included in a folder within the game files, so you can easily drop them into your Mp3 player.

Guilty Gear X2 #Reload is currently on sale on Steam for $8.99, and you have until the 12th of this month to purchase the game before it reverts to its standard $9.99 price tag.
