There have been rumors of a Horizon multiplayer project as reports suggested earlier this year that something is in development. According to reports, it will be available for both the PS5 and PC and will feature some form of co-op. Last month, new report revealed that a Horizon MMO is also in the works. Today, Guerrilla Games shared its latest job listing which reveals that the reported multiplayer project is indeed in development and they are currently hiring for the project. “A new internal team is developing a separate Online Project set in Horizon’s universe.
Guerrilla didn’t reveal much but in the post, they said that the online project will be “featuring a new cast of characters and a unique stylized look, friends will be able to explore the majestic wilds of Horizon together.”
The official description for certain jobs related to the online project provide some clues as to what type of multiplayer experience the internal team at Guerrilla is developing. The Narrative Designer will help “tell deep, complex story. This may mean that this won’t be a traditional multiplayer experience where players match up and take on machines. Further evidence of this can be seen in the Game Writer job description. They are required to “pitch compelling ideas for quests, factions, and backstories,” pointing that this may be more in-line with what players go through with Aloy in Zero Dawn, The Frozen Wilds, and Forbidden West
Guerrilla also said that it will be “continuing to create epic solo adventures for Aloy,” suggesting that they are also working on a third mainline Horizon game. Nothing official has been announced yet, but Guerrilla and PlayStation did announce Horizon Forbidden West DLC, Buring Shores, which will be released only for PlayStation 5 on April 19, 2023.
With the PS VR2 game, Horizon Call of the Mountain, Buring Shores, an online project in development, a possible third game, an MMO in development, and an Horizon TV show in the works at Netflix, players can look forward to more Horizon in the future.
