In its fourth year, the wildly successful charity event Guardian Con will bring the generous gaming community from all over together in Orlando, Florida. On July 5th and 6th, Guardian Con will be held for the first time ever in Orlando as opposed to the previous years taking place in Tampa. The community-based charity initially grew from “the roots in the Destiny community” and has extended its reach even further all for the good cause of the St. Jude Research Hospital.
St. Jude’s goal is the further the advancement of prevention and research in cures for pediatric diseases. Since the families whose children are cared for at St. Jude never receive a bill and such an amazing cause should be backed as much as possible since running that kind of operation costs millions upon millions of dollars. Their support has only continued to grow because of the help from all over the country, including other Guardian Con affiliated events put on throughout the year like the Borderlands scavenger event The Hunt and the Fortnite focused Clips4Kids.
Already the Guardian Con team has surpassed their yearly goal of 3 million dollars and is closing in fast on 3.8 million. This is all before the actual event has taken place at the convention! There is no doubt that the generous community and fantastic lineup of developers will blow past 4 million dollars next weekend. The roster of partners, sponsors, vendors, and entertainment is impressive. Charitable partners from Warframe, EA, and Respawn Entertainment will team up with vendors like Bungie, Audeze Mobius, Corsair, and HyperX to put together something truly special. One of the biggest headliners coming this year is 2K and Gearbox, who will be giving players some hands-on time with the much anticipated Borderlands 3.
Guardian Con has come a long way since it was considered a fan meetup in 2015 with Twitch streamers KingGothalion and Professor Broman. The team, including their Executive director Kmagic101, have put a stamp on what king of difference the gaming community can make in the world. For more information and tickets check out the Guardian Con website before they sell out! If you’re unable to attend the event will be streamed so those looking to donate can do so from afar.
