GTFO Gets Matchmaking with Rundown 004

GTFO hit Steam’s early access in December of last year. The game is developed and published by 10 Chambers and is their first game. GTFO is branded as an action/horror first-person shooter. The game requires teamwork between four players to complete puzzles and to survive the tense combat. Due to the necessity of playing with other people, matchmaking has been one of the most requested features for the developers to add to the game and something that seems like it would have been implemented much earlier. “We’re starting off with it in alpha, and will need our community’s help to refine it as we go. Try it out, and let us know what you think,” said the developers, who added later that they waited to add matchmaking until they felt that the game was close to completion.

GTFO may not be out in the wild yet, the game is getting the long-requested feature in the newest update Rundown 004, also known as Contact. A rundown in GTFO is a new story chapter and location in the underground prison as the warden sends them on missions that pit them against the mutated prisoners. Contact will also be adding a new layered difficulty system. In the maps for the new update, the paths will diverge with certain routes being much more difficult to navigate than other ones, a new feature for games in this genre. The layered difficulty with deliberately easier paths and the new matchmaking systems aims to make the game easier for new players to get into which has been a challenge for it before.

While Rundown 004 is being rolled out, 10 Chambers is in talks with Tencent about selling a majority stake to them. The team at 10 Chambers has expressed maintain complete creative freedom over GFTO, so a sale is unlikely to happen while the game is being developed.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
