The first footage from GTA V’s multiplayer system has been released, and it’s a doozy.
The footage announces an incredible open world experience; something unseen to this degree in the console gaming arena. Unlike the multiplayer experience in GTA IV, V’s system will operate as a living, breathing world. Inhabited by the players and the character’s they control.
These players will arrive in Los Santos (the fictional setting of GTA V’s campaign) and be able to interact with new characters and other players in an attempt to reach the top of the heap. Features like Car customization, character customization, property purchases, and vehicle purchases, are all extended into the multiplayer arena. This promises an incredibly unique and altogether new experience for seasoned Grand Theft Auto players.
The enormous open world map will allow players to interact in a solo capacity or as a team. These teams can attack missions as a single unit on jobs that include robbing banks and taking down rivals. However, team based mechanics is all based on how the players within the game get along. For example, if two players are not seeing eye to eye, the game will track who your rivals are and when they come online. This way the game is enticing players for a shot at vengeance and what Rockstar is hoping will aid in the “Unpredictability of a real world environment.”
Furthermore, game play modes like death match and racing are all going to be featured inside the multiplayer arena. These modes come with the added bonus of game creation that puts the power of a race, or a fight, into the hands of the player.
Rockstar has bitten off a large hunk with their new multiplayer system, but from what they’ve delivered thus far it’s not even close to being more than they can chew.
