Seven years since the launch of Grand Theft Auto V and Rockstar Games is still providing massive updates for GTA Online. The latest update, called The Cayo Perico Heist, was announced by Rockstar on November 20 and is expected to drop on December 15. The heist covers an entire island that has multiple ways to evade trouble with all new tools, vehicles, tactical weapons, and new social places to party with your crewmates. However, this heist also has the option to be completely solo.

This update follows the Los Santos Summer Special that came out in August. In addition to the exclusive vehicles and weapons, there will also be new radio stations with over 100 new songs and a submarine HQ. The Rockstar Twitter page received some push back from players calling the game dead and that Rockstar should move on with the next GTA. However, this massive update and Steam Charts data prove that GTA 5 is still one of the most popular games going into 2021.
It’s time to raise the stakes higher than ever before. You’ve broken a convicted spy out of Bolingbroke Penitentiary. You’ve saved the world from an egomaniacal tech billionaire. And you’ve beaten the odds to drain a casino of its cash. This time, you’re taking on an entire island.
This initial announcement is only the beginning as Rockstar promises more details and surprises leading up to December 15. Even though this will have the option of being solo, an internet connection will still be required. Rockstar also stated back in June 2020 that GTA 5 will continue to the new generation consoles with exclusive content for these consoles and PC. In the meantime, fans should be prepared for Rockstar’s new approach to heist design and the map extension.
