Grand Theft Auto Online just released its Freemode Events DLC today for Playstation 4, XBox One, and PC. The update fixes a few well known issues but most importantly adds Freemode events to the game which trigger every 12 minutes. Players can opt into the events at their will but also have the option of just observing or actually interfering in the event. These events, which appear in the game’s free roam area, require no lobbies and are absent of loading screens. Rewards for these events are given based on a player’s performance.
Freemode events come in many types of modes. A few of the new modes are detailed below
- Hunt The Beast – A player on the map is turned into a werewolf (with increased health and strength) and goes on the run as the rest of the players attempt to murder the beast.
- King of the Castle – Similar in concept to Halo’s King of the Hill mode, players are tasked with taking a territory and keeping it at all costs from other attacking players
- Hot Property – Players fight over a tagged briefcase and try to survive as long as possible. Players with the longest amount of time held onto the briefcase will reap the rewards
- Moving Target – The first player who enters a marked vehicle will be tasked with delivering it to a safe zone, all while trying to out maneuver all the other players trying to stop him.
- Kill List – Band together with other players to take out Merryweather mercenaries and get rewarded for each kill.
- Penned In – Players grab their best ride and try to push other players out of a small zone sumo style. Those left outside of the zone for 7 seconds get destroyed. Last one alive wins.
- Criminal Damage – Grab some weapons and wreak as much havoc as possible in the designated time. Those with the highest amount of property damage win.
- Hold The Wheel – Grab the indestructible vehicle and try to be the one in its driver seat when the timer ends. Too hard? Grab a partner and split the rewards
The update also includes two brand new adversary modes. In the new Hunting Pack mode players will compete to either protect or destroy a explosive rigged vehicle if it drops below a certain speed (hmm, that sounds familiar). The new Cross The Line mode pits teams against each other across a neutral territory. First team to have all players cross into enemy territory wins.
A special treat for players on Playstation 4 and XBox One is finally receiving the new and improved Rockstar Editor. The Rockstar Editor comes newly updated with Snapmatic Integration, an Ambient Audio Library, more fonts, and improved editing functions. PC also will receive this update.
As an added incentive to players, those who complete any 5 of these brand new Freemode Events between today and Sunday, September 20th will get $50,000 bonus in-game cash plus an exclusive Vapid t-shirt (awarded by Friday, September 25th). So what are you waiting for?
