Rockstar Games, the developers behind the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6, are facing legal filings from the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB). The filings are the result of Rockstar firing roughly 30 employees, which the IGWB alleged was “the most brazen act of union busting” in the video game industry.
The IGWB’s initial union busting allegations towards Rockstar surfaced earlier this month. During this time, Rockstar allegedly fired roughly 30-40 employees. The IGWB claimed that all of the fired employees were involved in the trade union’s Discord server as either official or prospective members. Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two initially responded to the allegations by claiming that impacted employees were fired for “gross misconduct” rather than for their union participation.
A few days later, in a report from Bloomberg, Take-Two further expanded on their definition of “gross misconduct.” A spokesperson for Rockstar alleged that the employees were “found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum,” which served as a violation of the company’s policies. The specifics of the “confidential information” remains unclear. Furthermore, the IWGB claims that the only members of the Discord server were union personnel and Rockstar employees, making it unclear if the server is the aforementioned “public forum.”
Today, the IWGB announced their issuing of legal claims against Rockstar for the alleged union busting. The union states that they are “representing employees who were dismissed by Rockstar Games in circumstances that we believe amount to victimization and collective dismissal linked to trade union activity.”
IWGB are currently protesting outside the offices of Take-Two London due to the recent dismissal of 40 employees at Rockstar Games.

The announcement follows previous protests outside of several of Take-Two’s London offices, which aimed to express the alleged mistreatment of the fired employees and help reinstate the impacted individuals. The protests also followed the delay of GTA 6 to November 2026. GTA 6 is one Rockstar’s most highly anticipated and financially viable titles to date.
Despite these protests and other attempts at negotiation, the IWGB alleges that Rockstar has “declined and persisted to terminate members of the union in a manner that is unacceptable and unlawful.” Alex Marshall, the president of the IWGB, claimed that “we are confident that what we’ve seen here is plain and simple union busting, and we will mount a full legal defence with our expert group of caseworkers, legal officers and barristers.”
The result of the IWGB’s filing, and whether or not the terminated Rockstar employees will be reinstated, remains to be seen.
