Grim Darkness Challenge for Owlcat’s Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader Begins Today

Ever since its release in December of last year, Owlcat’s Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader has become quite a popular subject of discussion among the playerbase of the Warhammer 40,000 franchise (even if said discussion mainly revolves around who the best girl is). With Rogue Trader being the very first traditional CRPG under the Warhammer 40,000 banner it makes sense that the game has made a few waves in its wake. And now a year later and about a month after the release of its first major DLC, Void Shadows, Owlcat is taking an extra step for their game with the Grim Darkness challenge.

In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only challenge runs of RPGs. Grim Darkness is one of the optional difficulty settings in Rogue Trader, with it, you only have a single save and if you die then that’s the end of the run. A difficult challenge for a 100+ hour CRPG, and one that includes ship battles of harsh difficulty. The exact rulings for the Grim Darkness challenge run can be found here, and the participating streamers can be found here.

It’s always cool to see companies participate in more intimate community events such as this, even if it’s likely to capitalize on the recent uptick in Rogue Trader’s popularity following Void Shadows, it’s still a fun event. Owlcat games are notorious for being incredibly difficult as well as incredibly open in terms of how you can build your characters and approach obstacles, so no doubt these challenge runs will pull out some real broken builds and innovative takes on some of the game’s more challenging sections.

With Owlcat continuing to hype up Rogue Trader, as well as the fact that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, a 2021 release, has received DLC as recently as last month Warhammer fans can definitely expect more content and more support for Rogue Trader, community or DLC wise, in the future from Owlcat.

Derek Lairmore: I've been playing video games and writing my entire life, so naturally I decided to combine the two passions. I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
