Gravity Rush 2 Gameplay Looks Gorgeous

We can all agree, including Sony, that the PS Vita wasn’t that great. Which is a shame considering that not many people got to play the original Gravity Rush until the remastered version came out back in February.  But that didn’t stop Sony from green lighting a sequel.

If you’ve never played, Gravity Rush is about a young girl named Kat who wakes up with amnesia and a strange cosmic cat that gives her the power to shift gravity in a bubble around her. The story follows Kat as she saves the city of Hekseville from monsters and other natural disasters. To over simplify it, the game is an  Eastern take on Western superhero games.

The game was fun, but you got this sense that the game was meant to be much bigger than it ended up being. Thankfully it looks like that won’t be a problem for the sequel since it has the entire PS4 to utilize.

Gravity Rush 2 was available on the show to demo on the show floor but other than that it didn’t have a huge presence at E3. The over half-hour of demo gameplay came from an archived stream from Sony that Kotaku found.

Fans who played the first game should feel right at home, from what the video said, all of the controls are exactly the same as the remaster. Kat will also have access to all of her old powers from the start of the game, with the edition of two special powers. They are called Lunar Mode and Jupiter Mode.

Lunar mode makes Kat and everything lighter allowing her to move around quickly and attack enemies with a series of  light hit. Jupitar Mode on the other hand does the exact opposite effect, making things heavier and giving Kat that extra oomph to hit the enemies harder. Both of those modes  can be access by flicking on the touch pad.

The first game pitted Kat against the monstrous Navi, and they are back for the sequel, but players will also fight giant robots as well as normal humans.

The demo showed off a little bit of the game’s co-op too. In the game, players can enlist the help of an A.I. partner to help fight a boss, no word on if another can jump in to control the character.

Gravity Rush 2 is slated to come out sometime this year as a PS4 exclusive.
