Grand Theft Auto VI, the next installment in the critically and commercially acclaimed franchise, was set to take over the world once again when it was set to release on May 26, 2026. Now, that launch is set for a later date. Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to launch on November 19, 2026.

“Hi everyone, Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026,” Rockstar Games wrote.

“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.

“We want to thank you again for your patience and support. While the wait is a little longer, we are incredibly excited for players to experience the sprawling state of Leonida and a return to modern day Vice City.”

Earlier this year, Rockstar Games released the second trailer as well as details on the story, characters, and locations that players will get to explore. Grand Theft Auto VI stars Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the first playable female protagonist in the franchise’s history. The official synopsis for the game is as follows:

“Vice City, USA.”

“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

“We wanted to give Rockstar the appropriate amount of time to polish the title and make sure it can be the very best it can be,” Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said to IGN regarding the delay. “I’m highly confident. And at the same time, there have been limited circumstances where more time was required to polish a title and make sure that it was spectacular and that time has been well-spent, when our competitors go to market before something was ready, bad things happen. That said, that said, I’m highly confident on the new date.”
