Grand Theft Auto VI Could Cost $100, Analyst Says

Everybody in the video game community and industry is waiting for one of, if not, the most anticipated game, Grand Theft Auto VI. According to Rockstar, the game is set to release this year. Since its official announcement and reveal towards the end of 2023, many have been waiting to hear or see something new. Another question that also keeps popping up regarding GTA VI is how much it’ll cost. With President Trump’s tariff plan possibly affecting a lot of different industries, including the video game industry, many are speculating that games themselves could rise in price. With Grand Theft Auto VI, some believe that the standard version of the game could be priced at $100.

In a research note distributed this week, analyst Michael Pachter, the Managing Director of Equity Research at Wedbush Securities discussed Take-Two’s plan for the game.

“We think the company has plans to sell the game at a previously unheard of price point, and suspect that management can offer consumers an incentive to pay $100 or more per unit by rewarding them with a large amount of in-game currency to be spent in GTA Online,” he wrote. There is precedent for integrating an online game experience with a premium game, as Activision did so with both Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty Mobile content prior to the release of its annual Call of Duty premium installment.”

“In Activision’s case, the integration led to a 40% increase in sales of Call of Duty premium; in Take-Two’s case, we think a successful integration of GTA Online and GTA VI can lead to a $100 price point for the premium game.”

Funny enough, NBA 2K21 was the first major current-gen title priced at $70, the current price for a standard version of a game.

Last month, Rockstar Games reiterated that Grand Theft Auto VI is still on track to release Fall 2025 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
