Gotham Knights Has Been Delayed Until 2022

One of the more intriguing titles announced in the Summer of 2020 was Gotham Knights. The spiritual successor to Rocksteady’s Arkham franchise, the game features many characters from the Batman universe, including Robin, Batwoman, Nightwing, and Redhood. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re going to have to wait a bit longer before we get our hands on this one. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has announced that Gotham Knights has been delayed until 2022, citing the need for “more time to deliver the best possible experience for players.”

As we already mentioned, Gotham Knights was revealed during the DC Fandome event in August of last year. The storyline pertains to the aforementioned heroes carrying on the will of Batman, who has apparently been killed in an explosion. The main antagonists will be the Court of Owls, an illuminate-like society made up of some of the wealthiest families in Gotham. The game will continue the series tradition of being an open-world with RPG-like elements and mechanics, while also introducing some new co-op features.

The developer, Warner Bros. Games Montreal, has some experience with a previous Batman title, Batman: Arkham Origins, which is a prequel to the entire Arkham storyline. Many thought leading up to the DC Fandome that the new Batman title would be developed by longtime developer Rocksteady. They instead revealed a brand new game at the same event, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewhich also has a tentative release time frame for 2022.

Gotham Knights is the latest title to see a delay this year. Other major titles that have been pushed back include Hogwarts Legacy and Vampire the Masquerade-Bloodlines 2While game delays are unfortunate news to receive, it’s also worth noting that the more time a studio has to perfect their project, it’ll more than likely come out better than a rushed title. Gotham Knights will now launch in 2022 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
