Golden Realms expansion pack to be released for Age of Wonders III

Triumph Studios’ strategy game, Age of Wonders III, has a premium expansion pack coming its way. The pack, named “Golden Realms,” is set to release Sept. 18, of this year. The expansion will be made available on Steam and GOG.com, where the game itself can also be purchased.“Golden Realms” will expand the game’s building mechanics, according to a press release from Netherlands-based Triumph Studios, the publisher and developer of Age of Wonders III. The expansion will also include updated AI, cloud saves, and a new ‘spell disjunction’ system. The game will join the relatively unpopulated Steam Workshop –at the time of writing, Steam Workshop harbors 141 titles. Steam Workshop allows community members to make modifications or content for a game, which can be downloaded by players.

The expansion brings in a large amount of new content. The ‘Halfling’ race will have new heroes, leaders, and units, can be used with all classes, and will have the ‘luck mechanic,’ which allows them to dodge attacks. A “Golden Realms” campaign will be added. In the campaign, players will help Halfling survivors and rebuild an empire, while confronting long-standing evil powers. Likewise, two new scenarios are to be added, which are both single and multiplayer

New map areas will be added in the expansion, such as “Naga Dwelling,” a snake-filled area, and “Lost City,” a region filled with treasure. Mermaids and monkeys will be among the more than 20 new unit types introduced. 50 new hero items are part of the expansion as well. Players can now explore the possibilities of wielding their very own crystal skull.

Both wild magic and partisan specialization will be ushered in the expansion, which can let players warp and mutate and sneak and ambush, respectively.

Having a city located in close proximity to treasure sites or crystal trees will now enhance and specialize the city. Empire quests are instated, where players achieve tasks before other players do, in order to receive additional support or resources for their city. New defensive upgrades will be available to protect cities. A new king of the hill-styled mode, “Seals of Power,” will come with “Golden Realms.”
