2018’s God of War is only just a couple of days away from being released on the PlayStation 4 and already reviewers are raving about the titular title. According to Metacritic, with the mean of all of its current reviews, God of War is slated to become the highest rated PlayStation 4 exclusive ever rated.
Santa Monica Studio’s newest entry into the God of War series will be taking a much different turn, and Kratos will be straying away from Greek mythology and delving into the world of Norse Mythology. In addition, Kratos will have a son to teach, train, and look after in this new perilous world. This large leap into new territory has breathed new life into the series, and many critic have taken heavy note of that.
At the moment, God of War stands at a Metacritic score of 95, and this score is only tied by that that of 2014’s The Last of Us Remastered. Both of these games are the highest rated PlayStation 4 exclusive according to Metacritic, but The Last of Us Remastered has its average score based on only 69 critic reviews while God of War currently has 89 reviewers adding to the average. Although both stand at the same score, God of War has had the higher number of reviewers, making its score all the more impressive. Not only that, but the closest PlayStation 4 exclusive to match this high score is Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End which stand at a score of 93.
However, God of War is not the highest rated game currently available on the PlayStation 4, merely the highest rated exclusive. The only title above God of War at the moment is Grand Theft Auto V, which stands at a 97. Other non-exclusives that come close to a tie with God of War are Persona 5 and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which both have an average score of 93. The next entry into the God of War franchise has yet to be released, so the likelihood that it can climb even higher than a 95 is still a very real possibility.
God of War will release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on April 20.
