God of War PC’s release was easily one of the most anticipated ports for the PC gaming community in a long time. The former PlayStation exclusive was once thought to be an impossibility for any other type of platform, and yet here we are, one of Sony’s most successful IP’s in history now available PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, and a few other retailers. The game has done well these past couple of days, garnering some favorable reviews, but another amazing statistic also took place. Within 24 of being released on Steam, God of War had roughly 65,000 concurrent players, making it the highest Sony title on the platform to have that many players at once.
Today God of War has set a new peak concurrent players record for Sony and become the biggest PlayStation Studios launch on PC / Steam
God of War – 65,172
Horizon Zero Dawn – 56,557
Days Gone – 27,450Congrats @corybarlog @SonySantaMonica on the successful launch! pic.twitter.com/jNpp6EKGzP

This new player base number also tops the previous two Sony titles that had a high number of players on Steam, Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn. Both had a respectable 27,450 and 56,557 player base, but as we can see in the tweet above, God of War absolutely trounced those numbers upon release. It’s also worth noting that God of War came in at number 22 for Steam’s top games of the week for concurrent players. It didn’t crack the top 20, but every single title above on that list was virtually a multiplayer game, which is not a major surprise. In short, God of War’s PC excursion has been nothing short of spectacular.
As we already know, the 2018 title was a massive critical success for the PlayStation brand, and is still often considered one of the greatest games of all time, winning multiple Game of the Year awards. The long-awaited sequel, God of War Ragnarok, is arguably one of the most anticipated titles of 2022. While that title does not have an official release date, we did a report on a potential one that was leaked last month with the placeholder for September 30, 2022. Hopefully, Sony confirms this and then we can all prepare for the coming storm.
