Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands will be adding in a free DLC event for players to experience, the Predator Challenge. This event will put a Predator, an alien creature that specializes in stealth hunting, in the spotlight for players to hunt down for special event gear.
The event will pit players, either solo or co-op, against the predatory alien. The objective: annihilate the Predator. This task will be easier said than done, as the Predator will utilize its stealth tactics to search and destroy. Although the event will be tough, it will also come with its own rewards. If players manage to take down the Predator, they will be rewarded with 1 of 15 customization items that are inspired from the movie franchise. These range from new weapons to melee moves that can only be used up close.
The actual event is designed to emulate the tension from Predator movie. The Predator will fight players head on at first, but then will move on to stalking the players. Predator will taunt, jump from tree to tree, and sprint from various locations before deciding to engage using his plasma cutter or smart disc. It is up to the players to rely on their reaction time in order to not only survive the sudden engagement, but to also sustain themselves during firefights with the Predator.
In addition, the PvP mode in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands will introduce a new class, the Predator class. This class is also Predator inspired, taking after the main protagonist of the film, Dutch. This class will be able to activate a battle rage mode, which will apparently be able to “tip the scales in his favor.”
When asked about the event, Nouredine Abboud, the producer of Ghost Recon: Wildlands, responded by stating that the team “realized in June that this year was the 30th anniversary of the original Predator movie, the coincidence was too great to pass up. We have a very good relationship with 20th Century Fox, and they were as excited as we were to let the Predator fight the Ghosts in an environment that fit their vision, so it was an exciting and fruitful discussion.” The team also wanted to make the event memorable, so the “game designers in Montpellier tweaked the gameplay to make sure this would be the most difficult fight players could find in Ghost Recon Wildlands, especially when solo.”
The Predator Challenge event will last from December 14th to some time in early January. The event will also be accessible for all users across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
