Ubisoft has reportedly begun development for the newest game in the Ghost Recon series. This news comes after the company announced there would be no more updates to Ghost Recon Breakpoint. The decision is largely due to the controversial decision to experiment with in-game NFTs.
The Ghost Recon Twitter account made this Breakpoint announcement in a post that said “We will continue to maintain our servers for both Ghost Recon Wildlands and Ghost Recon Breakpoint and we truly hope you will continue to enjoy the game and have fun playing in solo or co-op with your friends.” They followed this announcement by thanking Ghost Recon fans and said “From the entire Ghost Recon team, we want to thank you again for your continued support and love you have for the franchise. The feedback you’ve given for Ghost Recon Breakpoint has been instrumental and will help shape the future of the franchise.”
The Ghost Recon series will continue with the game codenamed “OVER.” Reportedly, the game has already been in development for over a year and could be released in the 2023 fiscal year. There is currently limited information about this new game since it is still unconfirmed by the company, but fans have high hopes since other games have been somewhat controversial.
Rather than announcing “OVER” for the 20th anniversary, the company chose to announce they are developing Ghost Recon Frontline. This project will be a free-to-play live-service shooter that is similar to Call of Duty Warzone. Ghost Recon Frontline does not currently have a set release date, but many fans are speculating the game will be released sometime in 2022.
Although the series has struggled in recent years, Ubisoft Paris is surely hoping that the new games will excite fans and promote more gameplay.
