The annual Game Awards is a very special time for game creators and fans alike. Treated very much like the Oscars for video games, there are awards doled out to the year’s best games, and a ton of upcoming game reveals and new trailers. The Game Awards 2018 was the biggest the event has ever been, and it would seem that Geoff Keighley, the creator of the event, is officially ramping up for The Game Awards 2019 by announcing the date on Twitter earlier today. This year’s event will be the award show’s fifth anniversary, so it’s sure to be extra special.
The Game Awards 2019 will take place on Thursday, December 12 as 5:30 pm PT, once again at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. “This year’s show will celebrate the act of creation, as I turn the stage over to a group of visionary teams selected to share their new projects with you,” reads Keighley’s tweet. The combination of the success the event had last year, this year’s milestone anniversary, and Keighley’s persistent dedication to the event over the years, viewers can expect another amazing show, and hopefully, one that once again outdoes the past year’s show. While not much more information has been revealed, Keighley says that more on the event will be released in the coming weeks.
The Game Awards 2018 was by far the best event Keighley and his team has put on so far. God of War received the award for Game of the Year, as well as those for Best Game Direction and Best Action/Adventure Game. Red Dead Redemption II also fared very well, picking up awards in multiple categories including Best Narrative. You can check out the full list of winners from the 2018 show here. Peppered in between the awards, tons of studios released trailers for their upcoming games. Memorable reveals include the Mortal Kombat 11 trailer, Far Cry: New Dawn, and the new Dragon Age teaser. Gamers now anxiously await the next round of Game Awards reveals this December.
