Human Things, the company that had the most funded Kickstarter for gaming hardware in 2018 and 2019 has just wrapped up their next Kickstarter campaign for the Genki: ShadowCast. The device works with Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and is the simplest way to play console games on your computer with no internet connection or TV needed. The original goal for the project was $30,000. The campaign wrapped up yesterday January 28 and Human Things has blown past their original goal and has raised $1,931,677 from 30,382 backers.
The ShadowCast was designed to take advantage of the screen that’s a little bit bigger than something like the Switch. Laptops aren’t the only devices you can connect the ShadowCast with. You can also connect either a PlayStation 5 console or the Nintendo Switch with your integrated desktop computers. The device itself sports an HDMI 2.0 input which brings in 4k video from the latest game consoles. It has USB-C output that can transfer footage to your computer up to 1920x1080p at 60 fps.
Home Design has also created the new Genki Arcade app which is designed from the ground up to minimize computing resources and prioritize latency for gaming performance. All you have to do is open the app, and it’ll auto-detect ShadowCast; then you’ll be playing immediately without having to adjust any settings. A Mac version and a Windows version of the app has been created, plus there will be a web browser version in the future.
With the ability to connect your gaming console to your computer, the ShadowCast can also record, edit, and you’ll be able to stream your gameplay. With ShadowCast, you won’t have to worry about how much you can record if you were doing so directly from a console. The ShadowCast is also compatible with other popular professional capture card applications like Open Broadcast Software (OBS), Streamlabs OBS, XSpilt, and more. You can even use the ShadowCast as a webcam so you can share your gameplay live with anyone as well as play with your friends and see them in split-screen just as if you were playing in couch co-op.
