Independent developer Geese n’ Goose has officially revealed that their upcoming “cozy grunge” adventure title, EbiTapes, is heading to PC via Steam on September 22. To celebrate the announcement, the studio debuted a new release date trailer highlighting the game’s distinctive aesthetic, whimsical cast of characters, and unique audio focused gameplay mechanics. The promotional footage offers a detailed glimpse into the laid back atmosphere players can expect upon release.
In EbiTapes, players set off on a relaxed “jam journey” to rescue a town’s Annual City Festival. Accompanied by a snarky feline companion named Zongy, players must navigate through a variety of tranquil neighborhoods, uncovering local secrets and getting to know the diverse residents who call the city home. The entire environment is completely handcrafted by an award winning illustrator. This specific art direction blends mellow vibes with a distinct, doodle inspired visual style that brings the quirky town to life. Exploring these intriguing little places allows players to dive deep into the community, mending broken friendships and bringing people together.
Gameplay revolves around environment exploration and dynamic sound collection. Armed with a trusty portable tape recorder, players are encouraged to capture a wide array of ambient noises, biological sounds, and musical clips scattered throughout the world. These captured audio clips serve as vital tools to solve environmental puzzles, assist neighbors with their daily troubles, and construct custom mixtapes. Once a tape is crafted, players can play back their recorded loops in miniature concerts for the local townsfolk.
The developer notes that no prior musical training is required to enjoy this system. Whether players are busy dancing with cows in a pasture or searching for missing slippers in a quiet neighborhood, the game promises a joyous and accessible experience designed for all ages.
EbiTapes is currently available to wishlist on Steam ahead of its late September launch.
