Yesterday on Xbox Wire, The Coalition announced the new content being introduced to Gears of War 4 that adds two new maps and new battle packs. In addition to this, the update will also bring along a Valentines Day Event that adds a new game mode involving torque bows. “Roses are red, violets are blue, Torque Bows for me, and Torque tags for you!”
As many people know, Gears of War 4 really gets into holiday events. Whether its Christmas, or in this case Valentines Day, The Coalition launches a fun new event to honor the holiday and gives it a fancy new murderous game mode. Beginning on February 10th, players will be able to once again play torque bow tag, but with a special “Cupid style twist”. February 10th will also bring about new Gears Packs, daily Valentines themed bounties, and a new Character to collect.
The update will also bring about a new map “Impact Dark” which is, well, Impact but at night. There will also be some changes to the map to make it more challenging and a fun new experience for everyone.
The new nighttime setting for Impact doesn’t just bring a new ambience. For the first time in Gears of War Versus, visibility is permanently reduced by smoke that has settled over the battlefield, forcing you closer to the action. Every weapon swap has been changed to alter the flow of the map – Snipers are now replaced with Boltoks, Dropshot replaces Torque/EMBAR and the Overkill now sits where Incendiaries used to.
With the new changes put in place, they put an emphasis on close quarters combat by adding Boltoks instead of snipers. They also added a smoke screen throughout the entire map, so even if there were snipers, it would be near impossible to find an opponent to headshot.
The second map added to the game is the return of War Machine. Unlike the original broken down old train station, the new version is in pristine and shiny in appearance. “Compared to the original, signs of life are everywhere – from the active DeeBee security bay, to the train sitting at the end of the platform ready to depart.” The layout of the map will remain the same, so for those who remember, there is usually a big fight over the single sniper. “Both maps are available to play today in the Developer Playlist for Season Pass Holders, featuring TDM, Guardian and King of the Hill game types with Double XP and 20% Bonus Credits!”
As for in-game changes, the multiplayer game mode Guardians will now have a new spawn system that will allow players to spawn closer to their leader rather than at the designated original spawn points. If one team was dominating, they would be able to move up far enough to begin to spawn kill the the other team. This should now be eliminated from the game mode.
