Gearbox’s E3 presentation showcased plenty of major titles in development at the studio and took some time to give fans a look behind the curtain of Borderlands: The Movie. The presentation started off with an oh-so-80s introduction video before jumping straight into some behind-the-scenes footage featuring Randy Pitchford as he made his way around the set and introduced fans to plenty of big names. Director Eli Roth also made an appearance alongside Edgar Ramirez, who will be playing the original character “Atlas” in the upcoming movie. Kevin Hart even made an appearance to promote the movie, promising that fans had no idea what they were in store for. Randy Pitchford let fans know that although the movie still has yet to be given a release date, it is about halfway done with production.
After spending some time on set, Gearbox revealed Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, a new Borderlands spinoff game inspired by the classic Assault on Dragon’s Keep DLC featured in Borderlands 2. This brand new game features Borderlands-inspired art and writing in a brand new fantasy world, potentially controlled by Tiny Tina as an all powerful dungeon master. The trailer showcased fantasy-inspired enemies and locations, as well as a star studded voice cast: Andy Samberg and Wanda Sykes are officially on board to bring their talent to the new game. Releasing in early 2022, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands promises to launch the Borderlands experience into the realm of high fantasy in the explosive fashion Gearbox is so well known for. You can watch the announcement here.
Tribes of Midgard is also on the way from Gearbox, and offers players the chance to team up with up to ten players and take on all that Norse Mythology has to offer in top-down, hack-and-slash gameplay. When players aren’t cutting their way through terrifying foes, they’ll get the chance to build a settlement and craft upgrades to help them fight back against the monsters trying to destroy the world tree. That’s not all, though: Giants are coming, and if players aren’t ready, these massive enemies will crush everything in their path. Players will need to work together to slay the giants at all costs or risk their world tree being destroyed. Tribes of Midgard is releasing July 27th on PS4 and PS5. You can check out everything the game has to offer here.
Finally, Godfall is getting another major update. Lightbringer is the next, totally free update coming to the game alongside its first paid expansion: Fire and Darkness. This expansion brings a brand new area to explore with new enemies, cosmetics, and sweet, sweet loot, and will be releasing alongside Lightbringer on August 10th. Lightbringer itself offers new endgame content and new “cursed” loot which players will have to complete objectives to cleanse and use. Godfall will also be getting a PS4 release along with full crossplay and matchmaking for some of the more difficult content, so new and old players alike will have plenty of new content to sink their teeth into this fall. You can check out everything coming to Godfall here.
Mxdwn will be covering everything happening at E3, so stay tuned.
