As for specifically why, the studio executive simply stated that he has left the company for his “dream job.” Before arriving at Gearbox Vignocchi worked with Disney where he spearheaded Disney Infinity and other projects. He then arrived at Gearbox in 2018 and spent less than a year before his departure.
In regards to his announcement he stated that “Leaving the company was one of the hardest decisions I’ve had to make and I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for the love and support of everyone there, They understood and encouraged me to take this role as it is truly a once-in-a-lifetime gig.”
Vignocchi had nothing but good words to say about his time at Gearbox. He specifically noted the efforts of the company’s founder Randy Pitchford and their head of publishing Steve Gibson, saying they both know “how to bring out the passion and excellence of all the amazing [developers] that work there.”
Pitchforks also took to Twitter to give Vignocchi a goodbye. Although it’s still unknown what role he will be taking Vignocchi stated that he will bit of a road trip,” which could mean that the job is quite a ways from where he is now but for now that’s all we know.
Love you, JV – you’re in it for all the right reasons. Absolutely rock the new gig! Our industry needs more like you.
