GDC Festival of Gaming Announces 2027 Festival Pass Options and Pricing

GDC Festival of Gaming released pricing tiers and “super early” rates for 2027 conference passes. In addition to the festival pass tiers from last year, 2027 brings three new pass levels, including the revival of the one day only pass. Last year, what was formerly known as the Game Developers Conference, rebranded to GDC Festival of Gaming for their fortieth anniversary. This rebrand came with reimagined festival pass tiers, consisting of the Festival Pass, Game Changer Pass, and Digital Pass, as well as discounted Academic, Indie, and Startup passes. The Festival Pass was set at $649 USD, and replaced the All Access Pass from previous years. Academic, Indie, and Startup passes held a discounted rate for this pass tier. The Game Changer Pass was a VIP upgrade to the Festival Pass, allowing attendees access to exclusive lounges and free meals, and had a running rate of $1699 USD.

GDC 2027 will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California from March 1-5. Like last year, the Festival Pass includes “Access the full GDC Program sessions & talks,” Festival Hall Access, and admission into GDC Nights. 2027 GDC Nights consist of the Game Developers Concert, the Game Developers Choice Awards, and the Independent Games Festival. New to 2027, it also includes “Business Hall access with guest meeting passes and reservable meeting spaces,” as well as admission into Friday’s “Career Faire & career-focused sessions” held in the West Hall. This pass is available at a “Super Early Rate” of $499 USD through October 9, 2026, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.

The Game Changer Pass for 2027 is, like in 2026, an upgraded version of the Festival Pass. The Game Changer perks are the same as last year’s, including “access to the dedicated Game Changer Lounge with light bites,” a festival provided daily lunch, “reserved seating at GDC Nights and Keynote, [and a] one-year GDC Vault subscription.”  The Game Changer Pass’ Super Early Rate is $1149 USD.

While the Indie and Startup passes are offered again for 2027, there are some key differences. First, there is now a clear distinction between the definitions for indie and startups. The indie pass is for independent studios and self-employed game professionals of any age. Whether you’ve been operating for one year or twenty, you may qualify as long as you remain independently operated and meet the size requirements.” These requirements are listed on the GDC Festival of Gaming website, specifying that indie pass applicants must be part of a games related company with under fifty total employees that is not managed by a larger company. Startup passes are also for smaller companies, but must have been established after January 1, 2022. Academic Passes have the same qualifications as 2026: applicants must be full time students or staff at “an accredited educational institution.”

Additionally, the Indie Pass, Startup Pass, and Academic Pass do have “Business Hall access with reservable meeting spaces,” but they do not come with guest meeting passes. It is currently unclear whether these discounted passes include entry into Friday’s Career Faire or West Hall sessions. All three of these passes require prospective attendees to apply via the official GDC website, and are available at a Super Early Rate of $299 USD. These discounted passes do not qualify for the large group discount.

New to 2027, the Festival Hall Only Pass admits attendees to the “Festival Hall (Tue-Thu), including all sessions and talks on the Festival floor.” This pass does not grant entry into other areas of GDC, including the Business Hall and any session taking place outside of the Festival Floor. Passholders are also able to attend the Game Developers Choice Awards (GDCA) and the Independent Games Festival (IGF), as they are on Tuesday and Wednesday, but cannot attend Monday’s Game Developers Concert. The Super Early Rate for this pass is $149 USD.

The Business Hall Only Pass is similar to the Festival Hall Only Pass, in the sense that it does not grant main hall access. Instead of festival hall access, Business Hall Only attendees are able to enter the Business Hall for meetings all week and reserve meeting spaces. For a Super Early Rate of $99 USD, these attendees also receive two complimentary guest meeting passes per day.

The One Day Pass is being revived for 2027, under the name of One Day Career Pass. This pass admits holders on Friday only to the “Career Faire and career-focused sessions in [the] West Hall.” This pass is set at $99 USD for the Super Early Rate. Additionally, anyone is able to purchase a GDC Vault subscription for $649, regardless of their in person attendance. This subscription is valid for one year after the vault is unlocked, but does not grant access to any in person events at GDC.

Along with new pass options, GDC Festival of Gaming has designed a build your own approach. This means that the “Business Hall Only, Festival Hall Only, and the 1-Day Career Passes can be combined so [attendees] can build the GDC experience that fits [their] week.” The One-Day Career Pass can also be added on to any base pass. If a prospective attendee is “not sure which pass, or combination of passes, is right for [them],” they should “contact the GDC Registration Team” to come up with the best option.
