Sony’s much anticipated PlayStation 4 has become more difficult to secure day one after GameStop ceased its acceptance of preorders for the console.
Fiiiinally, their name makes sense.
As reported by Game Informer, Gamestop issued the following statement:
“Due to high demand for the system, GameStop is not currently taking additional store reservations for the PlayStation 4.”
This announcement comes only weeks after Polygon first broke news that the retail giant had stopped taking preorders for Microsoft’s Xbox One.
According to one California store manager:
“We were only given an allocation of 16 Xbox Ones but we have 60 PlayStation 4s and we’re still taking orders.”
Another in Texas said:
“There’s no point trying any GameStops. We’ve stopped that SKU until we get notice.”
Look at all those people from when this happened the last time..
This news should come as no surprise, as GameStop’s President Tony Bartel was quoted back in March during an interview with Games Industry International saying there is,
“strong purchase intent for PS4. We do believe demand will far outpace supply within the launch window, although we have been given no official numbers by Sony…”
It’s becoming more likely by the day that this fall will mimic that of 2006 when the PlayStation 3 and Wii launched mere weeks apart. If you want to guarantee your PS4 or Xbox One on day one, be sure to preorder ASAP on Amazon before availability dries up completely.
