Last week, Halo Studios officially shared what’s next for the franchise by officially announcing Halo: Campaign Evolved, a head-to-toe remake of Halo: Combat Evolved’s campaign rebuilt in Unreal Engine 5. The game is set to release on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox On PC, Steam, and, for the first time, PlayStation 5, next year. With its release on PlayStation, it’ll be Xbox’s most high-profile exclusive to be released on other platforms, something many thought would never happen in their lifetime. In other words, as GameStop joked following the announcement, the console wars are over.

“WHEREAS, for the past two decades, the global gaming community has been engaged in an ongoing and increasingly petty conflict known as The Console Wars;
WHEREAS, said conflict originated in the early 2000s with the release of Halo: Combat Evolved as an Xbox-exclusive title;
WHEREAS, Halo: Campaign Evolved is officially coming on PlayStation in 2026 with cross-platform play;
THEREFORE, GameStop, acting under its authority as a Neutral Entity and The World’s Retail Gaming & Trade-in Destination, hereby declares the official cessation of the console wars.
All claims to exclusivity are hereby dissolved. Console loyalists are instructed to cease hostilities, disband militias, and enjoy this new era of gaming.
GameStop will continue to operate as a demiltarized zone, offering hardware, accessories, and trade-ins to combatants on all sides.
Power to the players.”

Many players, young and old, have responded to both the announcement of Halo: Campaign Evolved and GameStop’s “statement.” No one probably expected to get a response from the US government but that happened too. The White House shared an AI image of Trump dressed as Master Chief saluting the American flag (with 40 stars) while holding an energy sword.

GameStop sent another image of another AI image responding to the White House’s post with Trump as Master Chief again, this time with the helmet on.
Many may be wondering why the Trump administration responded to this particular news in the gaming industry when back in 2019, Trump called out video games as one reason for the mass shootings in America.
“We must stop the glorification of violence in our society,” he said. “This includes the gruesome and grisly video games that are now commonplace. It is too easy today for troubled youth to surround themselves with a culture that celebrates violence. We must stop or substantially reduce this and it has to begin immediately.”

The Department of Homeland Secruity also joined in on the fun by posting finishing this fight with a message of “destroy the flood” while Master Chief is driving a worthog. Underneath the message is another asking people to join.ice.gov.
Earlier this year, the Department of Homeland Security came under fire by doing something similar posting a video utilizing Pokemon in its video ad. We’ll have to wait and see if this stirs up the same way.
