A new tactical CRPG developed by ZA/UM has been unveiled at Gamescom 2025, known as Zero Parades, a game meant to be a story-rich espionage RPG.
Originally, the developers of Disco Elysium, a role-playing game featuring very little combat and an expansive open world, they’ve returned with what’s expected to be another hard-hitting title. After all, Disco Elysium is deeply beloved, being nominated for the BAFTA Games Award for Best Game in 2020 as well as a slew of other awards in the same year, as well as in 2019. However, the studio has changed significantly since then, keeping fans in doubtful anticipation for their next game.
The trailer, though, is absolutely enthralling; the uncomfortable sound of a clock ticking blended into the static background noise suck you into the world immediately. The words “I once knew a spy” echo uncomfortably as the narrator and seeming main character continue to talk as if the clock being beheld wasn’t warping and defunct. The spy is revealed to be a woman whom the main character, and an ambiguous us, is being pursued by, until blinding lights fade us out from the scene.
Despite the art style of the game being hard to pin down in words, it’s incredibly distinct and unique. The edges are rough and clear, and colors fade into one another as if boundaries between what’s real and unreal are being broken. Everything appears bumpy and mildly surreal, putting you on edge and in the mood to question the very existence of the world. The shown concept art and explorable spaces reflect that atmosphere, composed of wide open, colorful landscapes interspersed by rough, patchy buildings that are vaguely steampunk in aesthetic. Even the revealed humanoid creatures seem not to be quite right.
The official launch date of the game, compatible platforms aside from Steam, and any further information are still unknown. Though with the large amount of concept art on display, it’s safe to say that the wait may be long.
