Digital storefront Steam is home to almost any game a person can think of. With thousands of games on their platform, Steam has changed gaming on a PC entirely since their booming popularity in the early-2010s after introducing third party titles.
Since then, they have created their own line of hardware: Steam Frame, Steam Machine, Steam Deck, and Steam Controller. Each being their own take on a VR headset, console, handheld device, and controller respectively. Steam Frames are yet to be released, but their controller was launched May 4th 2026, making it their newest released hardware.
It was such a success that Steam ran out of stock before many players were able to order theirs. To remedy this issue, they introduced a reservation queue that opened May 8th, following the typical reservation fashion of sending out update emails in the same order the reservations were made. This was done with resellers in mind as well, as there were several restrictions implemented along with this process to ensure all gamers get their controllers.
In an update posted on their website June 18th, Steam announced a change with their reservations. Yet again, they received an influx of orders for their controller that they were not anticipating. They inform hopeful buyers that they will continue to make the hardware, but realistically, they will not be able to fulfill orders as quickly as they are coming in. Their revised queue now has three slots, one of which a customer will see once they reserve their controller: by September, by December, or 2027. As of now, there are no exact dates that will show for those told they will have to wait until next year, but as time goes on there will be updates emailed.
Even though they are catching up with orders, Steam assures gamers they can still place their reservations.
