Games, especially popular ones, can easily become one’s obsession in terms of mastery. Like most things, being the best at a game ignites not only inner-satisfaction but also a desire to show the world what you’ve got. This is where speedrunners come in. But not every game developer is content to leave their hardest difficulty at the wayside for speedrunners to annihilate. After a successful initial release, strategy game Frostpunk received its first major (and free) update today that includes an all-new difficulty and play-style in Survivor mode.
Per developer 11 bit studios,
The time has come to introduce the promised Survivor Mode to the game! It’s a special feature for the most seasoned arctic survivalists among you. If you find Hard difficulty all too easy, test the limits of your ability to survive the winter apocalypse in this brand new mode! You can pause the game only by opening a menu – so there is no active pause whatsoever! – and your progress is only saved automatically and on exit, so all your decisions are final. The difficulty level itself is also more rough and demanding –
Micromanagement takes a hit with the cutbacks of pausing and saving, basically spearheading Frostpunk‘s replayability to a whole new level. You’ll have to be quick and true in your decision making as everything will move a bit quicker. Additionally, the new mode will also have its very own achievements for players to unlock.
Update 1.1.0 also brings new features and balance changes. Most notable among them is the implementation of Ansel SDK. Frostpunk is a great-looking title with its contrast of a snow-covered steampunk world. Now, players will be able to take choice-angled super hi-res screenshots and show off their cities in 360°.
