While companies like Microsoft and Sony have felt a wave of layoffs, FromSoftware has found a way to massively increase their amount of employees over the past 4 years. Just like the massive recruitment wave last year, which saw the employment of everything from game designers to development supports, yet another recruitment campaign is on for the company this year. Director Hidetaka seems to speak very optimistically about the future endeavors of the company and where he hopes to see the potential go.
“It would be hard to describe the next chapter of From Software in one word but if I had to, I think it would come down to value and how we create this value.”
Since 2020, FromSoftware has seen a steady increase in their employment. The company has increased by 33% and now has over 400 employees. In addition to a constant pool of incoming talent, it seems FromSoftware has also been promoting from within their own company. Hidetaka Miyazaki has been quoted saying, “These new directors and game designers that are up-and-coming, our in-house talent, may not share those exact same values…I believe that will translate into being able to show the world the so-called new FromSoftware*, as well as the* types of games that we will be developing in the future.
Miyazaki also stated how he desires to make a dark fantasy, sci-fi setting for a game inspired by anime series like Aura Battler Dunbine and The Vision of Escaflowne in the future. There is also news of a Sekiro anime in the works and may be suffering from a lack of resources and production will depend on how many people Kenichi Kutsuna will be able to gather on the project.
This could be another reason for the increase in employment and another recruitment campaign, as to divvy up increasing demand and responsibilities placed on the ever expanding FromSoftware dynasty.
