Earlier today, 20th Century Fox’s video game division, FoxNext Games, announced that the company is launching a development fund for indie game developers. This fund will provide indie developers with the resources they need to create and release new games. However, at the moment, the fund is set at an unspecified amount.
The first game to take advantage of the development fund will be Altered Matter’s upcoming puzzle platformer Etherborn. The game was first revealed last summer. Etherborn is set for release this spring for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

While Etherborn is the only game announced to be using the fund so far, there will be additional games announced later this year. In regards to what games the company is looking for, FoxNext’s vice president of external development TQ Jefferson stated, “we’ve been searching for like-minded developers focused on innovation, experimentation and a certain amount of creative risk.” Jefferson would go on to state that:
We’re looking to partner with inspiring game makers, providing the support they need to develop the best version of their games and ultimately connect with the widest audience possible.
FoxNext Games was launched in 2017. The company’s most well known title, Marvel Strike Force, released on mobile devices early last year. Last year, the company also acquired Cold Iron Studios to work on a new game set in the Alien film franchise. Then last month, the company partnered with publisher D3 Go! to release a mobile entry in the Alien franchise, Alien: Blackout. It will be interesting to see what happens with this fund as time goes on as 20th Century Fox is currently in the closing process of a deal that will see the company be acquired by Disney.
