Back at the start of Fortnitemares, Fortnite introduced the glider redeploy feature to all of its default game modes. Now, an upcoming update will remove this feature from all default game modes after a series of complaints from its players.
The glider redeploy feature, as one can guess, allows players to deploy their gliders when free-falling from a certain height at any time during a match instead of only at the beginning of a match when they drop onto the battlefield. Glider redeploy started off as a feature back during the limited time game mode Soaring 50s, which premiered back in August. Epic Games later added this feature to the game’s default modes – solo, duos, and squads – two weeks ago, as a sort of “test.” Reactions to this addition were mixed. Some enjoyed the faster-paced play style and increased fluidity from the glider redeploy feature, while others disliked the changes to the game’s meta and how it ruined their former winning strategies.
In a post released yesterday on the official Fortnite website, the Fortnite team said that they will be removing the glider redeploy feature in the 6.30 update. “We did not live up to expectations of quickly iterating on the mechanic and communicating plans,” they said. Glider redeployment will still be feature in the larger team modes (such as Disco Domination and Soaring 50s) and Playground in order for players and the team to continue experimenting with this feature. There’s no other explanation for why glider redeployment is being removed two weeks after reporting “positive results” in an earlier post. Hopefully we’ll be seeing gliders once again play a bigger role in matches in the future when Epic Games manages to figure out the best way to implement glider redeploy.
The 6.30 update for Fortnite should be releasing some time today.
